Despite being the most recognized compositing tool among beginners, Adobe After Effects is essentially absent from major film VFX pipelines. Its layered-based architecture is too limited for complex compositing — Foundry's Nuke (a node-based system originating at Digital Domain in 1993) dominates instead. After Effects remains relegated to motion graphics and TV ads, where its limitations don't matter as much.
