Free Real-World 3D Terrain in Blender via Google Maps + NASA

Atom Search related

The free BlenderGIS add-on opens a Google Maps viewer inside Blender, lets you pick any location, and pulls down both Google's satellite imagery and NASA's SRTM elevation data as a textured, displaced mesh. What used to require expensive GIS software or hand-sculpting is now a few clicks: select a region, hit E to generate a plane, then fetch SRTM for actual height data. You can even import OpenStreetMap building footprints for full city renders.
