Generated 2026-06-22 in response to user's "what are some
other ideas you have for the felt faction app, maybe live
activites etc, that could be cool additions to felt faction?
lets ideate and brainstorm." This sits alongside the original
v1 brainstorm (2026-06-16, originals/felt-faction-ios-app-
brainstorm). The v1 brainstorm already covered Live Activities,
WidgetKit, Vision, SharePlay, MultipeerConnectivity, AirDrop,
Share Sheet, Spotlight, Face ID, Siri Shortcuts, App Intents,
Wallet pass. This page covers what's NEW since then — the
ideas that came up during the v1 build session and the
post-ship reflection.
The v1 brainstorm covers Live Activities as a "session in progress — Olivia: +312 CC this hand." That's a one-state Live Activity. What's not yet on the list:
Live Activities used to be one-state widgets. iOS 17.2+ introduces ActivityContent<> with state transitions + a staleDate and a dismissalPolicy. For Felt Faction this unlocks the night-long Live Activity:
| Phase | Content |
|---|---|
| 24h pre-session | "Tonight at 7 — 9/12 seats claimed" (lock-screen glance) |
| Session opens | "Doors open. The table is set. — Felty" |
| Hand in progress | "Olivia: +312 CC this hand" |
| Phase break | "Phase II opens in 12 min. Chips carry forward." |
| Settlement | "Photo your stack. The House is watching." |
| Finale | "The Phoenix rises. The Whale surfaces. — Felty" |
The Live Activity IS the night's narrative — Lock Screen, Dynamic Island, StandBy mode, CarPlay if anyone's driving. Felty narrates the whole arc, not just the in-session state.
The user already mentioned "live activities etc." — this expands from one-state to the full night arc.
The Dynamic Island has 3 regions: compact (small pill), minimal (tiny icon), expanded (tall pill). Each has its own layout. Felty should have a distinct icon in the minimal state — not the SF Symbol circle.hexagongrid.fill already used by the Standings tab. Something Felty-specific: suit.spade.fill or die.face.5.fill with the gold tint.
The compact state shows one piece of data. For Felt Faction, the most glanceable is your CC right now (not the leader, not the next event — yours). The Dynamic Island reads "312 CC" with a tiny spade icon. The user doesn't have to read the standing; the number is right there.
StandBy turns the phone into a bedside clock when charging. For Felt Faction: when the phone is on the bar / charging at the venue, StandBy shows the full leaderboard in landscape mode, big numbers, dark UI. The Pit Boss's view-of-the-room. The vibe matches the existing Felt Fluctuation card aesthetic — large, gold-on-black, glanceable from across the room.
StandBy was an Apple-y surprise hit in iOS 17; it's exactly the kind of ambient surface Felt Faction should claim.
The v1 brainstorm splits the loop into "at the table" / "in the group chat" / "on the wrist." But it doesn't address the hand-offs between these moments:
When you leave the venue's geofence (the inverse of the v1's "geofenced arrival"), the app fires a native push: "The night is closed. Your CC: +247. The Phoenix is $89 away. — Felty." This is the physical ritual of walking out, and the recap lands in that exact moment. The whole loop feels complete.
This needs CoreLocation background updates + a geofence on the venue. The geofence radius is per-event (the admin sets it when starting the session). The push payload is precomputed at event close; the geofence exit is just the trigger.
Some members claim the seat and forget. The 11pm push (1h before session if it's a 12am event, or session start -1h otherwise): "The table opens in an hour. Your seat is held. — Felty" with a one-tap "I'm on my way" or "I'm out" action button. The action button is the new thing — iOS 16.4+ push action buttons, no app open needed.
24h before the session: a Watch haptic (the "you've got mail" pattern, or a custom Felt Faction pattern). The Watch face complication lights up: "Tonight. Confirm / Decline." One tap from the wrist. The Watch IS the reminder object.
The v5 spec has Felty on push notifications, in-app banners, and the live settlement board. What's not on the list:
iOS 17+ supports "personal voice" (a custom text-to-speech trained on a real voice). Felty could have a voice — Connor's voice, sampled and consented, or a synthesized voice tuned to "finance-noir" timbre.
Use cases:
resolves, Felty reads it out loud over the room's speaker ("Olivia, plus two-thirty-seven. Chan, plus eighty-nine.")
read ("The blinds are fifty. The button is Aston.")
when a member crosses the loan-paid line. Theatre.
This is the theatrical anchor of the night — Felty as the room's narrator, not just the push-notification voice. The Saturday-night poker vibe with an actual house voice speaking the results. Gameable.
The challenge: personal voice is opt-in per user (Apple's privacy model). Connor records a 30-minute sample, trains the voice on-device (Apple's API), consents to usage in the app. Felty's voice IS Connor's voice, on Connor's consent.
The Pit Boss (admin) is running the table. They can't stare at the iPad. A second device (Apple Watch or AirPods) plays Felty's narration: "Olivia has settled. Aston is pending. Chan: not yet." Voice-first admin. Hands stay on the table.
This pairs with C1 — same personal voice, different surface.
The Dynamic Island shows YOUR number. But the Lock Screen Live Activity (full-screen during a session) could show the top 3 movements in the last hand — "Olivia: +312, Aston: -180, Chan: +89." The room's narrative on every member's lock screen, not just yours. Felt presence at the social layer, not the individual layer.
This is a privacy trade-off. Defaults to off; members opt-in. "Show the room's moves on my Lock Screen" toggle.
The v1 brainstorm has the live settlement board + chip-photo flow. It doesn't address the ritual of the settlement itself:
The Pit Boss triggers "settle in 10" — every member's phone shows a 10-second countdown synced across the room. At zero, all members take their stack photo. The synchronized beat is the theatrical moment. "We all snap together."
Implementation: a multicast NWConnection or a server-pushed "go" signal with per-client latency compensation. The server timestamps the "go" moment; clients start the countdown based on server-time + estimated offset.
The chip-photo UX becomes: countdown → flash → photo taken. The flash is the visual anchor.
First member to submit a valid stack photo gets a haptic + screen confetti. "First to the cage." Same pattern as the lot-checker for racers, or the seat-claim "1 of 12 claimed" celebration. Felt Faction's idiom.
The haptic is the actual reward — the user FEELS being first. No leaderboard for this; it's a per-event moment.
If self-attest and vision disagree by >5%, the dispute UI opens: side-by-side photos (the user's + the vision-pass reconstructed total), "agree with my count" or "trust the vision" buttons. Connor's admin override is the final word.
The dispute ritual is the anti-fraud layer. Without it, "vision said I won less" feels like an accusation. WITH it, it's a structured, neutral moment. Felty narrates: "Aston's count differs from the House's. The Pit Boss resolves."
The first night a new member joins, the iOS app should have a first-time ritual:
When the new member's invite_key is linked to their Apple ID, the app shows a 3-step onboarding:
The hand-shake IS the iOS version of Felty's Telegram welcome. The Telegram bot handles "easy layer" welcome; the iOS app handles the "deep layer" hand-shake.
The first time the member claims a seat, the chair fills with a satisfying haptic + the chair fills with a brief gold flash (0.4s). The "you're in" moment. The same haptic pattern as the admin's "apply no-show tax" but mirrored — the same beat, opposite valence.
A small detail that teaches the language of the app. The member learns "haptic = something meaningful happened" by feeling it once.
Before the first buy-in, a single-screen "what you're agreeing to" page:
3 lines of Felty voice + a tap-to-accept button. The member consents to the game's economy in Felty's voice before any CC changes hands. This is the on-device analog of the v3 "registered chip set" — the rules are explicit.
The v1 brainstorm's "what NOT to build" list is solid. Add:
Felt Faction has Telegram (Felty's bot). It has iMessage extensions (v2). It does NOT need in-app chat. The web Lobby is admin-facing. The iOS app is presence + ritual. Chat would dilute the surface.
The v1 brainstorm says this. Reinforce: the currency is presence, not content. The "what happened last night" is the Vault recap (web), not a social feed (iOS).
HealthKit for the "presence over pacing" rule is tempting but the v1 brainstorm puts it in v2. Keep it there. Don't shoehorn it in v1 — the rule is ASPIRATIONAL, not measured, until the player consents to the measurement. Doing it in v1 is surveillance theater.
The v3 brainstorm asks "if 6 are at poker and 6 are at social." Answer: not in v1. v1 is ONE table per session. Multi-table is a venue-scale problem, not a v1 problem.
Hydrolyze has haptics + animations + phase animator breathing. Felt Faction should lift:
matches Hydrolyze's tick-mark celebration pattern
same haptic style as Hydrolyze's primary action
when an award is actively changing hands (the badged holder animates for the first 1.6s after the award change)
wordmark in gold, fades in + scales 0.95 → 1.0 over 0.6s)
These aren't new patterns; they're cross-product lift from the codebase Nathan already has.
The v3 brainstorm mentions Vision Pro. The bold version: the Live Activity in spatial computing — the leaderboard as a window pinned to the wall of the room, visible to everyone at the table without a phone. The Vision Pro user "is in the room, in the leaderboard."
Phase II social table (CAH) is the killer use case — a spatial P&L counter hovering over the social table. The players at the social table see it; the poker players see it on their phones. The unified chip economy, made spatial.
Member can't make it. Joins via FaceTime SharePlay. Sees the Live Activity + the leaderboard in real time. Votes on the Phase II games from the sofa. The casual member stays engaged, doesn't fall behind on the season arc.
This is the "presence without being there" play. Reinforces the v5 spec's "presence over pacing" — even absence is presence when SharePlay is on.
CAH / Muffin Time has a real-time state problem (whose turn, what's the prompt, who's winning). Game Center's real-time multiplayer solves it natively. The Felt Faction wrapper would be the game rules on top — the chip payouts (1st = +5, 2nd = +3, etc.) integrated with the Felt Faction working hand.
Bold because Game Center integration is notoriously fussy. But once it works, it WORKS for all Phase II games.
The 3-5 year arc is "Felt Faction becomes the standard metaphor for serious-but-friendly stakes-based social rituals." The iOS app is the carrier. The Live Activities, the Watch, the SharePlay, the personal voice — these are the proof points that Felt Faction isn't just a web app with a Telegram bot, it's a coherent experience that meets you where you are (wrist, lock screen, dynamic island, room).
The wedge question is the v1 brainstorm's: "What is the iOS app's reason to exist that the web app cannot serve?"
The new answer (post-build, with Live Activities in hand): "The web is the ledger. The iOS app is the night. The Live Activity is the night, on your lock screen, narrating itself with Felty's voice, while you live it."
The Lock Screen Live Activity that runs the whole night — that's the new differentiator. Not "presence" as a metaphor. Presence as an actual, on-device, real-time, glanceable artifact. Felt Faction lives on your lock screen.

that already covers most of the obvious Live Activities + WidgetKit surface area.
